Forehead Lift / Browlift and Threadlift |
| |
A Forehead lift, also known as a Brow Lift, corrects heavy, drooping brows and the lines, grooves and wrinkles across the forehead and between the brows that make a person look tired, angry or even sad. The outcome is the return of the eyebrows to a higher and more natural position, a smoother-looking forehead and a refreshed appearance.
Sagging eyebrows, deep frown lines and furrows render an image of sadness and anger. Patients often complain that their co-workers ask them why they are angry, while they are not! They want to erase these false signs and have a more open-eyed and happy look. A forehead lift not only lifts sagging eyebrows but also disables the muscle that cause deep frown lines. The classical forehead lift is done by making an incision on top of the scalp from one ear to the other and pulling the forehead skin up. Although this is a very effective and lasting method it might not be ideal for those who are bald or have high foreheads. In these people an endoscopic forehead lift replaces the long scar with few small incisions through which camera instruments are inserted to do the surgery. Some surgeons feel that endoscopic forehead lift does not offer as much of a dramatic result as does traditional forehead lift. The latest technique for lifting the forehead eliminates scalp incisions all together. The transpalpebral forehead lift utilizes an incision in the eyelid fold in order to gain access to the surgical sites in the forehead and the frown region. This incision is often times used to remove redundant upper eyelid skin as well. I perform all three procedures and would be happy to help you with your decision during your consultation.
Brow Lift/Forehead Lift is sometimes performed simultaneously with other procedures, such as Eyelid Surgery or resurfacing techniques to improve skin tone.
Are There Non-Cosmetic Reasons for Forehead Lift?
Yes. Sometimes, trauma or nerve injuries can cause facial features to droop. Some patients concerned with extra skin of their upper eyelid actual have brows that are too low. The extra skin can fatigue the eyelids - sometimes to the point where patients tape their upper eyelid to their forehead in order to see. A Brow Lift can be corrective in these cases as well.
How is Forehead Lift performed?
Forehead lift is performed on an outpatient basis. After going home it is important to keep the head of the bed elevated in order to help reduce swelling and discomfort. Dressings are removed a few days after surgery and patients are able to wash their hair from then on. Most people can return to work in about a week and back to exercising in two weeks.

What Is a Direct Skin Excision Brow Lift?
This is a Brow Lift by excision of the skin above the brow. Direct brow lifting can produce a good result for patients who cannot have a classic Forehead or Endoscopic Brow Lift. However, the closer the incision is to the brow, the greater elevation. Therefore, this procedure is used with great care because it can create an unnatural, surprised look. Also, it is not favored for those who don’t want a visible scar and because it may create an unnatural brow hairline.

What Is a Thread Lift and How Does It Differ from A Facelift ?
As many patients are choosing to undergo less invasive cosmetic procedures, the Thread Lift is one new tool that makes this possible. Since the mid 1990's, plastic surgeons have been perfecting techniques that use various forms of barbed sutures for the suspension and tightening of the drooping and aging face. The Thread Lift is a face-lifting procedure that far less invasive, and is therefore an alternative to, a Full Facelift. It can be used for procedures including a Mid-Face Lift, a Brow Lift and a Neck and Jaw-line Lift.
While a Facelift requires making long incisions with a scalpel, a Thread Lift employs small stab incisions through which barbed threads are inserted under the skin to pull the skin into a tighter position.
While a Thread Lift is done under local anesthesia, a Facelift is performed under general anesthesia or deep sedation.
Thread Lift involves the placement of needles through the skin. A barbed thread is then inserted into the skin through the needle whole, and the needle is removed. Threads are then positioned and anchored upwards with their ends sutured beneath the surface. |
What are the Benefits of a Thread Lift?
The patient can achieve a tighter, more youthful and rested appearance in a short time, without being put to sleep under general anesthesia, with minimal discomfort and down time.
Can a Thread Lift Achieve the Same Result as a Facelift?
No. Unlike the facelift when the entire skin flap is repositioned and excess skin is removed; in a Thread Lift there no excision of excess skin. Therefore, Thread Lift is mostly suited for those with minimal facial aging and no redundancy or excess of facial skin.
What Are Contour Threads™?
One of the latest forms of this relatively new tool is the "Contour Thread™." The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved this new form of the barbed thread in 2005. It is the only FDA approved nonabsorbent thread for use in the United States. Contour Threads are non-absorbable and will not dissolve over time.
How Is A Contour Thread™ Lift Performed?
Using a thick, hollow needle, the cosmetic surgeon inserts a thread under the patient's skin, starting near the cheekbone. The other end of the thread is then tied to deeper, firmer internal facial structures. The physician gently tugs on the thread, tightening loose flesh upwards, closer to where it sat when the patient was younger. A Contour Thread Lift can lift sagging cheeks, jowls and balance eyebrows that are asymmetrical.
Men and women who have a lot of excess skin, and who want a dramatic transformation, would be better served with a Facelift.
The Thread Lift works well with minimally invasive procedures to restore the skin, such as the injection of BOTOX®, Restylane or other dermal fillers, and peels for deeper wrinkles. |

It can also be utilized to lift the brows in a situation when an upper eyelid Blepharoplasty is to be combined with brow lift.
