Men and women each have different reasons for wanting to have their calves augmented. This procedure has become just as much in demand with men as with women.
Many men, no matter how much they work out, are often frustrated with their calves for not being in proportion to their upper body. In many cases, well built men feel confident to wear tank tops, while are uneasy about wearing shorts because of having “chicken legs”.
On the other hand, women get calf augmentation in order to obtain curvaceous and sexy legs. This becomes more of an issue when they wear high heels, because the calves become most noticeable then. They want to show off their silky and smooth legs, which have all the right curves.
After surgery you should have a friend take care of you for a few days. You need to keep your legs elevated as much as possible for one week. During this time you can walk around at home but cannot do any strenuous activities. After the first few days you can go to work if your work does not require much strenuous physical activities. You cannot do heavy exercises of the lower body for up to 4 weeks depending on your body build and your exercise regiment. |

Calf augmentation is an outpatient procedure that takes approximately one hour, during which time you will be completely numb from the waist down. Some patients elect to have general anesthesia, which is also reasonable. The incision is about 1-2 inches long and is placed in one of the natural skin crease lines behind the knee. Implants, which are available in different sizes and shapes, are placed over the calf muscle bellies. The calf muscles themselves are not altered, so the procedure does not affect their performance nor will it affect their development with workouts.
This procedure like any other surgical procedure carries the risk of bleeding and/or infection. We minimize this by giving you antibiotics during and after surgery. Also, you should know that no one could make your calves identical. After surgery there might be some differences between your two calves in terms of shape, position, and projection. There is a very small chance of affecting sensation to areas of the leg and foot as well as possibly damaging the underlying nerves and vessels. Again, the chance of this is small, but like any surgery there are potential risks. Finally, calf implants are made of silicone. Unlike silicone breast implants that are made from liquid silicone, calf implants are solid. Therefore, calf implant silicone would not leak or travel into adjacent tissues. The latest scientific studies on silicon breast implants have shown no risk of autoimmune disease or cancer. In summary, calf augmentation enables men and women to have calves that are more proportional to the rest of their figure.
